    About

Although the Twin Cities region has long ranked at or near the top of many quality-of-life indicators when compared with other major metropolitan areas, its communities suffer from some of the most significant racial disparities in the nation across sectors such as education, employment, health care, and housing. The COVID-19 pandemic further illuminated these inequities by deeply wounding the social, economic, and general well-being of residents of color. Ongoing efforts across the county, including the implementation of a comprehensive Economic Competitiveness and Inclusion Plan, are focused on addressing many of the disparities that hold Ramsey County residents back in its regional economy. The county also continues to explore new collaborative opportunities with historically overlooked communities.

Further, Ramsey County endeavors to build community trust, share power with community members, and give them a direct role in defining and shaping county services and programs. Through its participation in the Upward Mobility Cohort, Ramsey County has already learned about new approaches to community engagement that can help the county not only communicate complex data to residents but also integrate their expertise and lived experience in its problem-solving.
