The Upward Mobility Initiative provides tools and resources that any community can use to inform local strategies. We also work directly with communities and partners through training and technical assistance (TTA). On this page, you’ll find examples of past projects and approaches, along with information about current opportunities for training and workshops. We welcome conversations with communities and funders interested in exploring ways to build on this work together.
OUR WORK IN COMMUNITIES
Mobility Action Learning Network
Throughout 2024, the Urban Institute provided technical assistance to a cohort of local leaders from 26 diverse communities across the US selected to be part of our Mobility Action Learning Network. The network equipped members with data, promising practices, and opportunities to learn from each other to address local challenges related to upward mobility and racial equity.
COLLABORATIONS
Training for National Networks
From late 2023 through 2025, the Urban Institute is providing data-focused technical assistance on the Upward Mobility Framework’s Mobility Metrics to mobility- and equity-focused organizations that support networks of communities, organizations, or constituents around the country.
PAST PROGRAMS
The Boosting Upward Mobility Cohort
From 2021 to 2022, Urban experts provided technical assistance and support to eight communities to help them assess local conditions that enable or prevent upward mobility and racial equity, identify solutions, and share best practices and address roadblocks with peer counties and cities.
Upcoming Trainings
Virtual Workshop Series
Our interactive Upward Mobility Workshop series shows local leaders how to begin leveraging the Upward Mobility Framework to create pathways to economic success, power and autonomy, and dignity and belonging for all community members.
