Our Partners

The Urban Institute’s Upward Mobility Initiative is made possible through the support of philanthropic partners, including the Gates Foundation. We are grateful to them and all our funders, who make it possible for the initiative to advance its mission.

Urban is one of several partners to the foundation who share a commitment to increasing economic mobility and opportunity in communities across America. As part of this collaboration, we are also working with Results for AmericaOpportunity Insights, and others who are building and sharing knowledge about how communities can increase upward mobility and promote racial equity.

We are actively working to grow our impact in partnership with communities, national organizations, and funders. If you are interested in joining us in this work, we invite you to connect.

COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Urban also continues to partner with and learn from numerous local governments and nonprofits that have already deployed or are deploying the Upward Mobility Framework in communities. They include the local leaders who participated in our Boosting Upward Mobility from Poverty beta cohort, our Mobility Action Learning Network, our technical assistance for the Community Foundation Opportunity Network’s Nexus for Equity + Opportunity Nationwide Network, and dozens of local stakeholders participating in CFLeads’ and the National Association of Counties’ economic mobility cohorts.

PARTNER RESOURCES

The partnerships discussed above have contributed to the creation of tools and resources that help local decisionmakers learn about and use evidence-based tools for increasing mobility and racial equity in communities.

In addition to Urban’s Upward Mobility Framework, these tools include Results for America’s Economic Mobility Catalog and Opportunity Insights’ Opportunity Atlas. The Catalog offers economic mobility case studies and data as well as strategies for increasing mobility related to health, justice and public safety, housing, and more. The Atlas offers census data on 20 million Americans from childhood to their mid-thirties to help local leaders understand where opportunities for and barriers to mobility exist in communities.
